The last time I wrote I was trying to breathe, refresh and engage. As my life has progressed since then, my chosen mantra is simple…Do. Fun. Sh!t.
It’s been a minute since I last wrote – 36 months to be precise. “Letter from the President”, January, 2020…clearly before “unprecedented” “new norm” “social distancing” and “flattening the curve” became part of our daily language (or perhaps a drinking game for some…and if so, no judgment here…)!
Instead of sharing a rollercoaster ride of stories, I thought I’d go old school and turn to a classic artform…the mixtape.
There’s always been something special for me about an actual cassette tape vs a digital playlist – there’s something about immediacy (instant gratification) that seems to reduce the attention to detail (in addition to hitting the record and stop button with exact timing – #IYKYK). I remember back in the day there were several people in my life who were especially adept at creating insanely beautifully curated mixtapes. The range of emotions, vibes, themes, tempo, were woven together as if you were listening to a story. When someone gifted you a tape, there was a message “I took the time to capture this moment” and “I see you.”
So…imagine a trip back to the eighties and you’re receiving a cassette created by me. My braced and eyeglass heavy face framed by my recently permed and coiffed hair makes you at least happy for a moment.

Like most people in the live events industry, we struggled with finding a purpose during the height of the pandemic. As we are back to planning and producing, I would like to think that I’ll never take the opportunity to help bring people together for granted, but I know that’s not realistic. I always felt I’ve had one of the coolest jobs on the planet, but now I know after spending so much time not bringing people together…we are so blessed to be able to do what we do. I am grateful to our clients, our team, and our vendor partners for making this possible.
So cheers to a new year, providing us opportunities to gather and hopefully a fresh mixtape filled with songs of love, joy, and celebrating moments of us all “Doing. Fun. Sh!t.”
